Look! Actual sweat

March 7, 2010

Day Twenty Four. I’m really stepping up the pace now, I really want this whole experiment to have worked, I can’t imagine the possibility of comparing the picture of myself from 30 days ago to my new photo and thinking, ‘Great, I look exactly the same’. 6 days left!

In a recent post I mocked a particular exercise on the Wii Fit but after a suggestion from a reader, @tamerofhope , I decided to give the Muscle Workout Challenge a  go, I really like doing jackknives so opted for that. I entered the bout dubious and, compared to Simon’s binary body, nervous about my athletic ability. The worry was needless. Simon gave up after 10 Jackknives, it appears I severely overestimated my foe. Simon should be aware that I can easily bash out 20 and he has even awarded me with the mantle *cough cough*, ’Muscle Legend’ so I was disappointed to find it so easy, thanks for trying to boost my confidence Simon but I do not need your pity!

Day Twenty Four:

5 mins Step Plus, 3 mins Super Hula Hoop, 6 x Press Ups, 12 x Torso Twists, 20 x Single Leg Twist, 30 seconds Plank, 20 x Side Lunge, 30 x Jackknives, 3 minutes Run

I first saw your blog on mens health and just thought I would check out how you were doing. To piss on your bonfire, the weight you have lost will almost be 100% because of your improved diet. There is no control in your experiment and if you were testing the wii, surely you should have kept your diet the same? The fact the wii has only just made you sweat showed it is not a workout. 6 pressups is pathetic and your workout sounds as if it is aimed at pregnant women or arthritic pensioners.

Having said the above I realise that it is a bit of a fun and your blog is entertaining if nothing else.

      Hi Franklin,

Thanks for reading I appreciate your critism. Your right this is not a controlled expiriment, I decided against this before I started as there are too many variables to maintain and measure, I agree that my change in diet is a big factor, in my post ‘So Now I’m 39′ I explained that after exercising for a period of time I went off the foods I was eating, I see this as a positive side effect and a good change to my lifestyle that I have not struggled to maintain.

6 press ups is pathetic, as is my upper body strength :-) It is tough squeezing a full workout in to the recommended 30 mins a day though and god forbid I do more than I should lol.

I’m glad you enjoyed the blog, I’m going to give an in depth view of my experiences on day 30
